Alfred University set to host Night of Science and Arts

Alfred University will host its annual Night of Science and Arts on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5-8 p.m. The event, which welcomes members of the campus and local community for fun events and demonstrations focused on science, engineering and art, is sponsored by Alfred University’s chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.

Events will be held in the McMahon Engineering Building and Harder Hall Lobby. Attendees will have a chance to take in more than 40 live demonstrations in physics, glass science, mathematics, engineering, and other science disciplines. There will also be interactive demonstrations from Alfred University’s School of Art and Design and Performing Arts Division.

Participants can, among other things, create sugar glass and fiber, watch fire dance to music, watch gummy bears catch on fire, learn about explosions, and eat cotton candy and liquid nitrogen ice cream.

The Night of Science and Arts is free. While the event is geared toward elementary school students and their parents, organizers are certain that everyone will have fun.

A buffet dinner will be served at Ade Dining Hall at a discounted family rate; kids 12 years and under eat free.
